The OTTAVA SC-C500 all-in-one hi-fi system delivers stunning sound quality in a compact, stylish design.

Jitter is the main cause of interference in digital transmission systems. It is caused by deviations of the clock used in the conversion from digital to analog. In order to eliminate jitter from sound degradation, Technics has developed a new jitter suppression circuit. It consists of a clock generator in the noise shaping system, which reduces jitter in the low frequency range, and a precise sampling rate converter, which suppresses jitter in the high frequency range. Jitter is thus ideally reduced over the entire frequency range. This solution is based on a newly developed, original PWM (Pulse Width Modulation) conversion circuit that optimizes the speed and extent of noise shaping, requantization error and PWM grading so that high resolution signals are converted to PWM without affecting the dynamic range. These new technologies allow Technics next-generation digital amplifiers to reproduce the natural and subtle nuances of music.

LAPC (Load Adaptive Phase Calibration)
LAPC is a last-adaptive amplifier technology developed by Technics. It measures the frequency, amplitude and phase characteristics of the amplifier with speakers connected and processes the signal response digitally to achieve an ideal impulse response. The characteristic parameters optimized for the speakers of the OTTAVA ? system for low-frequency and high-frequency loudspeaker load characteristics are already preconfigured in the LAPC calculation circuit in order to achieve ideal frequency and phase characteristics over the entire frequency range.

Twin power supply circuit system
Traditional power supplies power the amplifier, CD drive, and digital circuitry through the same transformer. Thus, when load fluctuations or circuit disturbances occur, other circuits are also affected, resulting in poorer sound quality. The SC-C500 OTTAVA power supplies contain completely separate sections for the amplifier section and the other signal modules. This suppresses mutual interference, reducing interference with sound quality due to noise and fluctuations in the power supply.

Bi-amping structure for separate amplification of high and low signal components
The bi-amping principle avoids electrical interference between the high-frequency and low-frequency loudspeaker chassis, thus achieving perfect control of the loudspeakers. The DSP system separates high and low frequencies with a high precision BiQuad filter with digital crossover. This allows a particularly accurate frequency separation, which is not possible with passive crossovers. Separate, fully digital high and low frequency amplifiers completely eliminate electrical interference between woofers and tweeters. The bi-amping structure optimally controls the speakers.

Battery operated clock generatorWith digital audio, high precision of the operating clock is extremely important to the sound quality. However, noise from the power supply for the clock circuit can be a problem. Technics uses a battery-powered clock circuit that has already been used successfully in our analog amplifiers. This improves the timing precision and realizes a stronger sound presence and excellent spatial expression.

Let yourself be enveloped by music!
Ordinary compact speakers usually can not produce expressive bass. The speaker system of the SC-C500 OTTAVA has two woofers in opposite directions to suppress cabinet vibrations. Its Spiral Acoustic Ports produce a fulminant bass from a limited housing volume. This speaker system provides high-quality bass response that would normally be unthinkable with such a small cabinet volume. In addition to the powerful, contoured bass, the loudspeaker system must reproduce the entire frequency range from the high to the low frequencies with no time delay, so that the listeners feel surrounded by a clear, lifelike sound. Since the directional characteristic of the sound changes depending on the frequency range, the SC-C500 OTTAVA speaker system emits the low / midtones and the high-frequency sounds differently. The low and mid frequencies are distributed over a reflector. For tweeter playback, the tweeters are configured in multiple directions. The shape of the speaker enclosure is designed so that the sound emitted by the tweeters does not create any unwanted interference with that of the other speaker units. This eliminates sound damaging influences and provides a clean sound, regardless of the listening position. These advanced sound technologies unite in a pleasantly understated yet elegantly elegant case that flatters the eyes.

Spiral Tube double bass drive
The SC-C500 OTTAVA system produces a powerful bass from its compact speakers, which until now was only possible with drivers with a much larger diameter. Two small diameter (8cm) bass drivers are used per enclosure to provide enough membrane area for high sound pressure. The bass drivers are arranged vertically to minimize the footprint of the speaker (110 x 110 mm). A typical feature of bass reflex loudspeakers is that the bass reflex resonance frequency reduces the membrane amplitudes as the sound pressure increases. Low reflex tuning at 40 Hz effectively attenuates the membrane amplitude at low frequencies. The length of the bass reflex port is comparatively large. Thus, the frequency at which the flow velocity within the port becomes the largest due to the bass-reflex resonance, shifts to an extremely low frequency range, as rarely occurs in music signals. The housing volume was set at 800 cc to tune the resonant frequency to 40 Hz. Thus, the system achieves impressive bass from a compact body. To accommodate the long reflex channel in a small dwelling, Technics uses a spiral tube with the largest possible bending radius, so that no unwanted flow noise occurs. With the JENO engine, the sound pressure at low frequencies, which in principle is lower due to the diaphragm lift reduced by the bass reflex channel, is raised again in a targeted manner. This technology allows our compact speaker system to reproduce powerful, distortion-free bass that has previously only been reproduced by speakers with significantly larger diaphragm diameters. The built-in DS-C component in the SC-C500 OTTAVA provides precise control of the low-bass boost, avoiding distortion caused by high diaphragm excursion.
